I’m thrilled to announce that I signed a contract for my third book just before Christmas. It will be published by John Murray in June 2021. Here is a taster of what I will be working on over the next 18 months:
“This is the gripping and sometimes hilarious story of how a band of heroic curators and eccentric custodians saved Britain’s national heritage during World War II. The stories told in the book are where Downton Abbey meets The Monuments Men: a moment from our history when an unlikely coalition of mild-mannered civil servants, social oddballs and metropolitan aesthetes became the front line in the heritage war against Hitler. With a cast of characters who could have stepped right out of an Ealing comedy, this, in short, the tale of unsung and unlikely heroes during the museum world’s Finest Hour: the interwoven lives of ordinary people who kept calm and carried on in the most extraordinary of circumstances in their efforts to save the Nation’s historic identity”.
